The bedroom

It
is the smallest room but perhaps the one which better recalls evocative
atmosphere and memories, between reality and legend, at the time
of highwaymen. The hole, placed at the door side was called dialectically
"saitter", that it is to say: "to shoot arrows at",
and it was used not only to recognise who was at the door, but,
in particular situations, to shoot ill-intentioned people.
The
reverend Padre Antonio Sumerano (1882-1895) found out chalices and
holy objects in the two niches at the sides of the window; they
were walled up there by the Brethren of the Oratory of the Blessed
Sacrament in order to escape from frequent brigands' raids. The
old grandmother told that what was discovered represents only a
small part of the invaluable treasure the Trullo Sovrano still hides...
