The hall

It
is the most important room of the house and one which mostly distinguishes
the Trullo Sovrano from the others.
In
place of the usual wood floor there is a cross vault, completely
built with stone and supported by a system of four romanic small
arches leaning against the two major walls. The arches have the
function to counteract the side push of the vault and at the same
time to release the strong weight of the structure on the side supporting
walls.
Through
the big closed arch, left with visible stone, it was possible to
enter other rooms which originally belonged to the Trullo Sovrano.
The
door made in oak wood was for almost three centuries the communication
door betweeen the kitchen garden and the cowshed. Its strong and
essential manufacture points out a handicraft technique that is
typically medieval.
